The Movie
Accompanied by his eleven best friends, Darius Weems, a fifteen-year-old living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), leaves home for the first time in his life. The rowdy crew sets a course for California where they hope to convince MTV to customize Darius's wheelchair on the hit show, Pimp My Ride. Darius Goes West has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people of all ages all around the world.
The Movement
Darius Goes West is more than a film. The continuing story of Darius, his crew, and the tens of thousands of supporters they have met in their travels can be experienced on this website. This site is continually updated with short videos, blog posts, and innovative initiatives that aim to affect a cure for DMD.

Darius I go to Jamesville DeWitt middle school. It was soooooooooo cool to have you come. I met Colin (Colin remember i am kooler than Tessa). I also met Sam, Logan, Daniel the driver, he showed me the screaming thing. It is really cool. I met a lot of people too. I am going to the High School to see Darius Goes West again ( the teachers showed us it in school ) I was also filmed ( I am the one that did Daniel’s screaming thing at the end. I lost my son, my hero, my love and my life to Duchennes MD 11/16/2008. My son made it till he was 22 yrs of age. He was the most inspirational person on the planet according to everyone that met him. My son did not have the strength @ 15 to play an instrument but I can assure you he never lost any power of speech. He could eat and speak more and most entertaining than anyone I know. To watch Darius makes me want to join the road trip. He is so lucky to have friends his age which is something my son did not experience. He was always with adults and felt kids his age at school would not be interested in activity with a handicap. I would give anything to speak to Darius direct considering I feel a motherly bond to him in spirit. Please contact me if I am able to call or contribute in his trip. I live in North Myrtle Beach and after many years of fighting, we finally have handicap ramps that can bring a power chair down to the beach. I know you have never met me but I can assure you we could both benefit from it. Wishing everything I can for you and your family. Love, Theresa

Hi Darius and crew! I take vacations via cruise ships often and I must tell you that my trip on the Solstice will be forever remembered by your presence. I met Ben on the first day at the pool while trying to sit on lounge chairs that kept trying to go airbourne! After a while of interesting conversation, Ben told me of your great journey and I was totally amazed at what you have all accomplished. When I saw your film, I was really taken back! I laughed and cried with you guys all the way to the West coast and back home! What an awesome job you did and continue to do. I will support you efforts and promote your DVD to everyone I know. I just learned about you today and am excited to learn you are coming to our town soon! My son also has a fatal disease called Mucolipidosis, he was almost diagnosed with DMD until they tested for his rare syndrome. I did a lot of research in those early days about DMD, and know what a difficult challenging life it is for those affected and I am so joyfully amazed by your strength and tenacity and know you WILL achieve this and any other goals you set out to achieve!! You are a real inspiration to others coping with life challenges and I pray that all who meet you will see things through new eyes. hey today i just watched your video, darius goes west! it was the most inspiring movie i have ever watched. before i even watched darius goes west, i hadnt even heard of dmd. thank god i watched this movie, because now i realize that everyday i live is a blessing and that i am so lucky to be able to walk and do all of these things. and darius, i love how you are living your life to the fullest and that dmd is not stopping you from seeing the country and making awearness of this! your my hero, and you will always be. i cant wait to see you and your crew come to my school on march 25th!

When my school first showed your movie i cried. i had a lot of people in front of me when we had to watch it i had seen them laughing at you. i said how do you find htis funny. you cannot make fun of him. i know he wants to live a normal life but you dont make fun of him by calling him retarded and then they were making fun of me for sticking up for you. we actually have a little girl in our Campbellsport Elementary School, Campbellsport WI that has a form of muscular Dystrophy. anyways when i first watched your movie i cried nonstop. my group of friends and i all bought goslabi shirts. I find it amazing that your friends did all that for you. that was so nice and considerate of them. i found your movie insparational and loving that everynight i will have my family pray for you. i hope you can reach you goal. Dear Darius & crew,
i watched your movie about 5 weeks ago, and everything about it has stuck to me. In the begining when i walked into class it was just another movie, but by the end of the period i didn’t wanna leave without finishing and knowing where and what and how i could help. I believe that you all are an astounding group of people. not only darius for fighting his way through wut 9/10 ppl would give up on but for not limitating himself. i myself am an avid soccer player, and if i’m not on the pitch i’m playing around throwing sand. my summer starts this friday and i just sat down at dinner not but 15 minutes ago and was shocked at all the things i take for granded. Runing, sitting, moving as i please. i would trade everything i own and so much more to trade places with someone who doesn’t really know wut thats like. Darius made a difference in my life and its beyond me how a group of freinds did what they did. I attend Indian River Charter High School. in Vero Beach Florida. a small town that is mostly elder folk and something dawned on me while getting a slurpee from 7-eleven. there was no wheel chair axcess. i’ve scheduled to meet the mayor of vero and talk to him on this problem. whether or not i get the meeting we will see. but with the courage of darius to face something bigger than me. i will tackle the problem just like darius is. God Bless you all! hope to hear back from you. and Really hope i can meet you all someday.
