Dear Oprah,
I want to see Darius Weems (and his faithful crew) on your show. Darius and “the boys” have broken, widened, and forever changed my heart.
I believe you are familiar with Darius and his film, “Darius Goes West.” I was introduced to this film through a friend of mine – a dear friend whose son shares the same deadly disease, and who was part of the film. I shared the film with my NYC middle school students and immediately we decided that collectively, we had to help. Long story short, we began our own DGW campaign which included film-screenings, fund-raisers and a massive letter-writing project letting Darius know how much his movie impacted our lives.
Darius and his friends made a personal visit to our school last year, we read him our letters, shared tears and laughter, and he – on that day – became embedded in our hearts forever. He deeply affected and inspired these inner-city middle school students, who, to this day, have been changed forever by this beautiful young man and his movie.
Darius, Logan, and company have an incredible story, and they tell it well. But more than that, they have helped me to empower my students, who have their own personal struggles, and (before him) knew little about the gift of giving. He reached, and helped me reach, some who seemed unreachable. There is such great hope and power in this movie, and in this crew of heroes. Help them share with the world this little known legend, this unforgettable legacy – every one needs to KNOW ABOUT IT!!!

The Movie
Accompanied by his eleven best friends, Darius Weems, a fifteen-year-old living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), leaves home for the first time in his life. The rowdy crew sets a course for California where they hope to convince MTV to customize Darius's wheelchair on the hit show, Pimp My Ride. Darius Goes West has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people of all ages all around the world.
The Movement
Darius Goes West is more than a film. The continuing story of Darius, his crew, and the tens of thousands of supporters they have met in their travels can be experienced on this website. This site is continually updated with short videos, blog posts, and innovative initiatives that aim to affect a cure for DMD.
