I’m asking to cast a vote for a cause that I support called Darius Goes West. Voting is free, and every vote raises $1 for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). DMD is the number one genetic killer of children in the world. It can strike any family, and one in every 3,500 boys is born with this devastating disease.

Even shorter?
Your free vote = $1 for a fatal disease

The long of it?
Darius Goes West is one of 100 causes left in a vote on Facebook called the Chase Giving Challenge.  Top prize in this contest gets $1,000,000. Darius Goes West is currently in 10th place. The matching grant–$1 per vote–is provided by a family from Florida who has a child with DMD. They are willing to match up to $20,000!

A little big about Darius Goes West (DGW)….
DGW is the story of Darius Weems, a fifteen year old living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In 2005, Darius left his hometown of Athens, GA for the first time in his life.  He saw the ocean for the first time, the mountains for the first time, and his ultimate goal was to get his wheelchair customized on MTV’s pimp my ride.  The rowdy crew video taped the journey and turned it into an award winning film.  The film, and nationwide grassroots movement it has become, aim to affect Darius’ disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy–the number one genetic killer of children in the world!

Darius Goes West is as much a movement as it is a film.  The crew has spent the last four years on the road together relentlessly trying to raise funds and awareness for this devastating disease.  In fact, just last year they traveled over 50,000 miles to over forty states to attend screenings organized by supporters, both young and old.

Doctors are very close to developing a treatment or cure for DMD.  I assure you that this cause is worth the time it takes to cast a free vote.  Doing so would also mean a lot to me and the thousands of boys affected by DMD.
