Thinking Outside the Box

November 12, 2008

Quote of the day: “Not pitying someone in a wheelchair; building friendships and treating everyone the same; and to not try goslabi, because it will fire your booty off.”–Logan, talking about three lessons he hopes folks take away from Darius Goes West.

Darius and crew headed to Kennesaw State for a Georgia AAIDD (American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) presentation themed “Think Outside the Box.”

There were about 100 people there for the presentation, the majority of them caregivers.

Logan showed several scenes from the movie and discussed accessibility issues and the importance of caregivers.

Darius talked to the crowd about how having his friends travel with him makes things so much easier for him; without them, he wouldn’t be able to devote so much time and attention to his music.

After the presentation, Darius got to call out the raffle prizes.

Crew-member Kevin won some soap and shampoo! Trust us: it was much-needed.

Everyone at the presentation was incredibly friendly and a pleasure to meet.

Much love, K-Shaw!

A very special thanks to Deborah Conway, Sheryl Arno, Janet Deal, and Renee Simoneaux (all officers of Ga AAIDD) for hosting us–and for feeding us!
