Quote of the Day: “Back in Syracuse. Good to be back.”—Darius, upon pulling in to Syracuse.
After splitting up for our visits to Yale and University of Connecticut, the DGW crew reunited for a trip to Syracuse. Like our visit to Long Island the week earlier, it was a return to a place that’s played a major role in our fund- and attention-raising campaign.
First up was Jordan Elbridge School, where Darius and the crew “ran the gauntlet,” going through the school’s hallways and high-fiving just about the whole student body! It was an awesome greeting.
It was also a loud greeting, literally and figuratively—the school’s drum line played as we entered, and student leaders presented Darius with a huge donation!
We got to hang out with students during their lunch periods, where we signed shirts…
checked out this awesome portrait of D…
and posed for photos with the students. It was a great, informal way to get to know some of our fellow warriors in the fight against DMD.
Thanks, Jordan Elbridge!
Next up was C.S. Driver Middle School, in nearby Marcellus.
We were given another big welcome by students…
and the local police!
Marcellus is the home of Ms. Nolan’s class, whose students are major presences on the DGW forum.
After a great Question-and-Answer session with the students…
Darius and crew enjoyed some great food with some of the faculty at Driver…
while we were serenaded by Marcellus High School’s singing group. Thanks guys!
Mayor Michael Plochocki of Marcellus was there to join us, as well.
That night there was a screening at Marcellus High School, next door to Driver…
where Driver’s principal Michael Dardaris presented Darius and crew with a VERY generous donation of funds students and faculty have raised. Way to go, Driver!
The night closed with some feverish merchandise-buying, revving up for the rest of a great week in Syracuse.
Thanks, Heather, Melissa, Allison, and everyone at Jordan Elbridge, Driver, and Marcellus schools and communities!
