OU: Last Stop on the Long Trip West

March 15, 2009

Quote of the Day: “I didn’t let my situation get me down:I got outta the house to do something”—Darius, responding to an audience member asking, “When you leave today, what’s the thing you want us to remember?”

After Salt Lake City, Darius and crew got back on the road for the 24-hour ride to the University of Oklahoma.

We caught a few winks in a hotel, then drove to campus.

There, we caught up with Michael Giesecke, who introduced us at the question-and-answer session.

Michael organized the screening on short notice…

but he still managed to coordinate an awesome, enthusiastic crowd.

There were more DVDs sold than people in the audience, which shows how serious the University of Oklahoma students and community members are about stopping Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

From impassioned film buffs to casual movie-goers, the audience really responded to Darius, and they stayed well after the Q-and-A was over to talk about everything from movie recommendations to how best to tackle the million-DVD goal.

It’s always great to see Darius empower students of all ages, and it was also fun to catch up with Lindsay Schwak (pictured, far left).

Lindsay is a family friend of Logan’s, and when she heard about Michael’s screening, she made sure her friends came with her to share in the cause.

Thanks, Michael and OU!

When the screening was done, we got in the car for the long ride back to Athens. Finally, after six weeks on the road, Darius and crew were headed home.

We’re always in awe of the generosity people show us around the country, but the intensity of this six-week trip really opened our eyes. We’re so grateful for all the people that support Darius Goes West.

Thank you, supporters!

    Hey Guys,
I saw you (and fed you) today at Harborfields. You guys are truly awesome. As impressed as I was with Darius I was astounded at what you all have done to help him on his journey. To see you together was an inspiration to everyone that I spoke to after the Q & A. We’ve got your video in our market and hope to sell a ton of them to help fund the cause. Thanks for coming to Greenlawn.
