Hot Dogs at Leadership Georgia

November 12, 2008

Quote of the day: “I motivate Logan, and Logan motivates me.”–Darius to a group at a Leadership Georgia session, explaining what it’s like to work with your best friend.

Darius, Logan, and some of the crew were invited to speak at a Leadership Georgia session, which was held at the Georgia Academy for the Blind in Macon. LGA is a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Each year, 60 people are selected from across the state to participate in this program, and their spouses/significant others are encouraged to participate with them. .

They fed us hot dogs and chili dogs from NuWay’s!

Collin thoroughly enjoyed them. Maybe a little too much, by the looks of things….

Darius, Logan, and crew held an informal discussion with the group. Darius talked about the frustration of limited accessibility and wheelchair breakdowns…

while Logan brought up the importance of peer-to-peer mentoring, reliability, inspiration, and the difference one person can make.

During the question-and-answer session, Jorge Atiles stood up and asked the crowd, “how many people here can honestly say that they have a home that Darius can get into?”

It was definitely a thought-provoking talk.

After the presentation Darius met up with Frank Ros, a former Georgia Football player, who was captain of the championship team with Herschel Walker. He even let Darius try on his national championship ring. Sweet.

We also got to hang out with Missy Lane, recent RV-purchaser and CEO for United Way of Coastal Georgia. Thanks so much, Missy!

It was great to have such an open, in-depth discussion with all the folks at the Georgia Leadership Council, and we were really inspired by all the great work being done.

We’re very lucky to have met so many wonderful people so early in our million DVD year. We look forward to future collaboration with these guys in reaching our, now common, goal!

Thanks to Tim and Alisa Blanco for bringing us, and for the awesome gift baskets! And Darius sends major props for the GameStop gift card you gave him!

It was great meeting you in Macon. I have had the opportunity to share with several of my colleagues in UGA’s College of Ed about your fantastic work.
My children (16 and 9) enjoyed watching the full video with me.
Thanks again for all your hard work and being such wonderful role models.

Hi Darius and Crew, just wanted to let you know that we came home and played the DVD for our son and friends. They loved it. We have plans to show it to 90 9th graders who are in reading Intervention classes at our local highschool. We are hoping that it will inspire them. Many are apathetic and have no faith in their own abilities or motivation to try to do well in school. Many drop out and I hope the fact that Darius graduated despite his challenges will motivate them to believe that they can as well. Thanks so much for the inspiration and keep up the good work!
