Goooo, Wildcats!

October 12, 2008

After our weekend at St. Simons Island, we headed to North Carolina for a pair of screenings at Davidson College (October 6 and 7).

The first screening was at Duke Performance Hall…

…and the Wildcats showed us some love, packing the venue.

Crew member Andrew Carson, center, attends Davidson, so it was a homecoming for Darius and gang.

After this year-long push to sell a million DVDs, Andrew will return to Davidson, where he’s a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. John Frankel and the Kappa Sig brothers really quarterbacked the Darius Goes West screenings at Davidson.

Paul Stroup, Jimmy Colavita (far left), Will Lent (Darius’s left), and Taki Bitounis were great with organizing. Also, despite some illnesses and schoolwork, they hosted us late into the night.

The next day, Andrew made sure we spent some time in Davidson’s athletic center to shoot hoops. Here, crew member Collin shows off his skills as Darius watches the Davidson men’s team practice on the neighboring court.

During a court change, Stephen Rossiter (far left) and All-American, Stephen Curry (left) came over to hang out with Darius and the crew.

Head Coach Bob McKillop also dropped by to invite Darius and crew to a game. When Davidson takes on NC State December 6, Darius Goes West will be there rooting on the Wildcats!

Plus, if Coach needs to fill out the roster with any short, unathletic guys who can’t really shoot, he knows where to find us.

Afterwards, we stuck around to watch the Wildcats scrimmage. Davidson had an incredible run to the Elite Eight in last year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Darius, Andrew, and the crew will be rooting for an even better finish this season.

For the second screening, Davidson set us up at the Lilly Gallery, where we were greeted by another packed crowd.

Here, crew member Daniel shows off a miniature RV to the students.

Through student efforts, DGW DVDs and merchandise were made available for purchase at the Student Union with CatCard, Davidson’s student money account system.

This sets a great precedent for other schools looking to help Darius Goes West in its goal to sell one million DVDs over the next year. Thank you so much, Kappa Sigma and Davidson! Go Wildcats!

I attended the Davidson screening and absolutely enjoyed the movie. I have followed the Darius story for almost a year now, since my 4 year old son, Garin was diagnosed with DMD last September. I admire what this group of young people have done for Darius but also for all boys with DMD! Thanks for the hope that you give to everyone.
