Darius signs with New South Entertainment
Darius has already spent many hours in the recording studio in Athens and plans to have 2-3 songs ready for downloading by the holidays. His first album is expected to be ready by early spring.
In fact, Big Daddy Weems, whose rapper name (at least for now) is Grind Time, plans to hit the road in May/June, and already, middle/high schools and colleges in the Northeast are organizing concerts to showcase his talents. If you want to jump on the bandwagon, holler at us.
Meanwhile, we congratulate Darius on his new endeavor. He is pumped about using his raps to continue spreading awareness of DMD…and raising funds for research.

Accompanied by eleven best friends, Darius Weems, a fifteen-year-old living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), leaves home for the first time in his life. The rowdy crew sets a course for California where they hope to convince MTV to customize Darius's wheelchair on the hit show, Pimp My Ride. Darius Goes West has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people of all ages all around the world.
The Movement
Darius Goes West is more than a film. The continuing story of Darius, his crew, and the tens of thousands of supporters they have met in their travels can be experienced on this website. This site is continually updated with short videos, blog posts, and innovative initiatives that aim to affect a cure for DMD.
DGW is a registered 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization. All proceeds benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research.

Congratulations Darius, My wife & I have two boys with DMD. You are an inspiration and role model to everyone, showing what can be achieved with a can do and don’t give in attitude. Hope all goes well you deserve it.

I’m a teacher at Stivers School for the Arts and I just showed DGW to my class. We loved it. If you come to Ohio and are in the Dayton area, please consider coming to Stivers. We are a school for the Performing Arts and it would be a great opportunity for us to hear about the making of the movie and now about the rap career. We are truly inspired and want to help spread the word about DMD.
