Next up in the series Darius Goes West: Crew Profiles, it’s Director and Editor, Logan Smalley…
Darius Goes West started in Logan’s brain; he was the first crew-member to have the idea to capture some of the love and quest for change that Darius embodies.
Now, he serves as a kind of “promo-man” for all things Darius Goes West.
Logan does a lot of the public speaking for DGW…
…coordinates community members eager to support the cause…
…helps produce DGW content, like the blog and videos…
and frightens any young children we come across on the road. (Just kidding–the baby is actually crying because of some of the crew-members’ scary facial hair.)
Logan was a Special Education major at the University of Georgia, and recently received a Masters in education from Harvard University.
He uses what he learned in school to try meet the challenges of expanding the DGW Foundation, and he uses his phone (constantly) to try and encourage wide-spread adoption of this year’s one million DVD goal.
His job can get a little tiring…
…okay, REALLY tiring.
But fatigue is not an issue when one is pursuing their passion….
especially when that pursuit involves working with loved ones like his brother Ben (left) on a shared goal.
The supporters, both old and new, are the source of Logan’s motivation…
…especially the supporters who understand that the simple act of story-telling can combat a common and aggressive disease.
In the end, the hard work comes naturally, because Logan is lucky enough to take daily influence from the leader of this operation…
his life long friend, Darius “BigDaddy” Weems.
Up next on the continuing series Darius Goes West: Crew Profiles is Daniel Epting. Stay tuned!

I am inspired by Darius and this crews efforts to find a cure for this awful disease! I have Myasthenia Gravis, which is a neuromuscular disease similar to MS. I hope that one day with all the people in the world working diligently to raise funds to find a cure, that we do just that! Take care and keep on truckin’!

Hey, you guys do AMAZING things, we watched your movie in guidance, and you are truly awesome. Have you ever considered coming to Billings Montana?
Hi Logan,
I am the mom of some of your mini-crew in Clemson (Emma, Owen and Ian). Would love to do something with you all this summer. Anything going on in Athens we can help with? Or something we can do locally? Please let us know. We need our fix of “Darius” motivation.
So proud of Darius, the crew and MTV. You all are in our thoughts and hearts.
Fondly,
Stacy Fowler
Alright. Your movie was bomb! and you guys hella need to come back out to California preferably the bay area because 1. your hot 2. darius is a baller and 3. the movie was soooo good!
Darius is my hero. During the movie I was like crying infront of my whole class, it was pretty bad. It wasn’t because i pitty him (he doesnt want to be pittied) but because he touched my heart. I respect Darius forever.
