Crew Profile: John Harmon

November 16, 2008

Crew member John Harmon, aka “Harmonious”, is a jack-of-all-trades for Darius Goes West.

He serves as a caregiver for Darius…

and helps keep track of the money we make from merchandise sales and donations on the road.

John’s also one of the creative forces of DGW. He contributes to the blog, both as a writer…

and as a funny subject for photos.

John is taking time away from school for a year while he helps DGW in its one million DVD, $17 million goal to stop Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Next year, he’ll go back to Georgia College and State University (GCSU), where he’s studying to become a special education teacher.

He’s also working on a book! After college, John eventually wants to teach, but he also wants to make sure to take advantage of the freedom of youth…

“There are a lot of things I want to do, that I can do now, but can’t do later on. I want to make sure I get to do all of those things….

Spending this year working for Darius Goes West–that’s one of those things.”–John

In his spare time (which is pretty much non-existent nowadays), John likes to read his favorite 20th century writers…

and he likes sports. He’s got a crazy floating shot that seems to go in every time. He loves playing soccer…

and wrestling fellow crew-member Jason Hees. He likes golf, too, but…

unfortunately, he’s not quite as skilled a golfer as he is a wrestler.

That’s our John!

Next up in our continuing series Darius Goes West: Crew Profiles is Collin. Stay tuned!

    Hi Darius Goes West Crew,
As a mom of one of Darius’ “little brothers” with DMD, I am so proud of each of you for what you are doing to raise awareness and fund research. I hope that one day, my son Nixon will be able to be touched by such caring, compassionate friends. Darius is setting a great example for my son and DMD boys by showing that you can make a difference no matter the circumstance. Roll on, Darius. Your vehicle is giving my son a chance at making it to his high school graduation and beyond.
