Awesome Night, Golf, Broken Wheelchair: St. Simons

October 07, 2008

After a couple of much needed days at home, Darius and crew hit the road again, this time going to St. Simons Island, Georgia, for a golf tournament and screening set up by Ashley Nunn.

It was our first chance to show off our new corporate sponsorship with Dr. Charles Clarke and Advanced Endodontics on the side of our RV. Thanks for being so cool about the sponsorship Dr. Clarke. Nothing can stop us from putting your support to good use….

not even a broken wheelchair:(

That’s right, D’s wheelchair broke down on a gravel road in St. Simons. We switched to the manual just in time for a…

…benefit golf tournament at the Sea Palms Golf and Tennis Resort. The event was organized by Ashley’s boyfriend and Sea Palms Golf pro, Beau Edenfield. St. Simons community showed their support for Darius Goes West with a day on the links.

The crew got a chance to play, too!

Here Alex Kidd, part of the Darius Goes West family, is about to smack a ball well over five-hundred yards.

Perhaps more impressive than Alex’s monstrous drive is DGW’s very own driver. We’re not talking about a golf club, we’re talking about the RV driver, Daniel Epting. Specifically, we’re talking about Daniel Epting’s golfing outfit. He’s in the background and was very happy that his attire received golf claps on nearly every hole.

On hole 18, he was accused of using the threads to compensate for a mediocre swing. He then silenced his accuser with the smashing drive pictured above.

At the screening itself, we were greeted by young supporters from Oglethorpe Elementary carrying homemade signs…

…and bearing gifts. We were also treated to an awesome dinner by “Chef Ed Hose.” Thanks, Ed!

The venue was incredible! Ashley arranged for a huge inflatable screen to project the movie to folks sitting in lawn chairs and blankets. An incredible company called JMM produced the event.

The weather was perfect, and as the sunlight waned, people of all ages laughed in the glow of the screen.

After the screening, Darius and crew stuck around to meet with supporters who came out.

All around, it was an incredible weekend! Thank you so much, Ashley (to the right of Darius), Beau (to the left), JMM, and St. Simons!
