Quote of the day: “We direct money into the hands of researchers who have the best shot at developing a treatment or cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Our goal is to cure DMD in time to save Charley’s life and the lives of thousands of boys like him”–mission statement for Charley’s Fund.
After Chicago, the RV headed east for a Charley’s Fund event in White Plains, NY, organized by Andrea and Robert Tucker and Allison and Larry Fehrenbaker. Benjy and Tracy Seckler (aka, Charley’s parents) made the trip, too.
The event included a screening of Darius Goes West and a silent auction, with all the proceeds going to Charley’s Fund.
Held at Zanaro’s Restaurant, the pre-screening cocktails hour was way too classy for our Goslabi greens. Luckily, they let us in anyway.
Apparently all the excitement was too much for some of us.
Luckily, others were able to stay awake. That’s Matt and Alison Willis, of Two Smiles One Hope, with Benjy.
After the movie ended, Benjy gave a rousing speech about the urgency of the fight against DMD.
The crew watched. Traveling the country, meeting more young people with DMD and their loved ones, the need for quick action is clear.
The strength and grace of families like the Secklers and the Willises is a constant source of inspiration for us.
Next we poured out into the halls and got ready to head back to Zanaro’s.
where the reunion would continue.
Uh-oh! Jason found the big box of popcorn. Looks like someone’s going to have a tummy-ache later.
All told, the evening raised nearly $60,000 for Charley’s Fund. Thank you, Andrea, Allison, and Larry!
