July 13, 2012
Darius Weems recently completed a 30 day “Believe” Tour of the Northeast, where he shared his new music with thousands of rabid middle/high school fans. In mid-June, he had his final visit at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, where he participated in a year-long clinical trial for older boys with DMD who have heart problems. In early 2012, he signed a record deal with New South Entertainment, has three songs on iTunes, and plans to release his first album this fall. At 22, he is almost 100 pounds lighter (on purpose) from the time he made his first trip West at age 15, and has outlasted his beloved brother, Mario (who lost his battle with DMD at age 19), by three years. He remains a media magnet as well…watch for a major story profiling Big Daddy Weems to appear on ABC Nightline later this month.
For all these reasons, and more, we call Darius Weems the 8th Wonder of the World! And that’s the theme for our EIGHTH ANNUAL DARIUS GOES WEST DAY festivities, which are just around the corner. BTW, don’t let the word “Day” fool you. We have THREE days/nights packed with exciting activities for all ages. Check it out, and please come to Athens, GA to join the fun…
1. A Poker Tournament and Casino Night with great prizes
2. A massive Carnival - fun for the whole family
3. A local screening of the film
4. A Rap Concert featuring Duddy Ken, Elite Tha Showstoppa, and, of course, Big Daddy Weems
